Ho Central MP supports brilliant but needy BECE candidates with Items

Ho (V/R), Oct. 15, GNA – Mr. Richmond Edem Kofi Kpotosu, the Member of Parliament (MP) of Ho Central has donated educational and personal support items to 20 brilliant but needy students, who excelled in the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the Municipality.

The donation, made through his MP’s Common Fund, included 20 mattresses, 20 chop boxes, 20 trunks, and several packs of sanitary pads, gari, sugar, and shitor.

The gesture, according to the MP, was aimed at encouraging academic excellence and supporting students from less privileged backgrounds as they transition to senior high school.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony held at the St. Francis of Assisi RC Church, Ho Depot, Mr. Kpotosu said that although he was not fully satisfied with the overall performance of the candidates, he remained committed to fulfilling his promise.

“I made this commitment to support the best-performing but needy students in our municipality, and even though the results were not as impressive as expected, I must keep my word,” he stated.

He said the support initiative formed part of his long-term vision to promote education and empower young people in Ho Central.

“I have only been in Parliament for 10 months, and I believe this is just the beginning. I hope to expand this project in the coming years as we continue to invest in our children’s future,” he added.

The event coincided with the International Day of the Girl Child celebration, held in collaboration with the Ho Municipal Education Directorate. This year’s theme was “The Girl I Am and the Change I Need: Girls at the Frontline of Crisis.”

Officials from the Education Directorate commended the MP for his continued support to education, particularly his focus on promoting gender equity and supporting girls’ education. They emphasised that such initiatives help reduce dropout rates and motivate students to strive for academic success.

Some of the beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the MP, saying the items would significantly ease their burden as they prepared to enter senior high school.

“I am very happy because my parents could not afford a chop box or mattress. This support means I can go to school with dignity,” one of the beneficiaries said.

The MP urged parents, teachers, and community leaders to continue working together to nurture young talents and ensure that education remains a tool for breaking the cycle of poverty and promoting development in the Ho Municipality.
